We Are VdM: Lindsay Fehr
The very best part of Villa di Maria is our people. Our community of families, faculty and staff is something to be proud of. In this series, We are VdM, we highlight the energies, talents, humor and wisdom of some of our amazing people. Today, we’ll get to know Lindsay Fehr, our Young Children’s Community Specialist. She works in both YCC communities (Redbud and Dogwood), supporting the guides and providing extra hands when needed. We are lucky to have her on the team and congratulate her as she starts her journey as a new parent to son, Cooper!
How did you discover Montessori/VdM?
I discovered Montessori from my sister, Lauren (YCC Redbud Guide). When she went to school for teaching and then got AMI certified I knew some things about Montessori, but then watching her raise her boys with the Montessori approach, I definitely learned a lot more about it and thought it was very interesting and awesome.
I ended up at VDM because of my sister as well. We both worked at a different Montessori school where I was her assistant. When she decided to transition to VdM, I was excited to come with her. I’m the YCC floater now, but I’m still glad I get to work with her
What do you love about the Montessori approach?
Something I love about the Montessori approach is that everything is so independent and child-driven. It is so cool to see the children be so excited about learning and how happy they get that they “did it”, even at the YCC level.
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?
My favorite thing to do on the weekends is to sleep in, go on walks or play with my dog and spend some quality time with my husband. (Lindsey wrote this before her son, Cooper, was born!)
What was your favorite book as a child?
My favorite book as a child was “Are You There God, It’s Me, Margaret” by Judy Blume. It was my favorite because I could connect with Margaret and it was a funny and serious book about growing up.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a high school English teacher when I grew up.
What is your favorite memory from the classroom?
My favorite memory of the classroom so far this year would be being pregnant because when my son is old enough, he'll be learning in the same classroom that I was carrying him in and that's pretty cool to think about. Full circle moment :)
